Albumen photograph,16 1 / 2 x 11 3 / 4 inches,signed by the artist in the negative, with Lincoln’s facsimile signature below; corners cropped, moderate soiling and foxing, minor dampstaining, ink and wash portrait of unidentified woman laid down over the entirety of verso. Massachusetts, 1865 [400/600] Spooner apparently based his painting on Chris- topher German’s January 1861 photograph of Lincoln (Ostendorf O-41), thickening Lincoln’s beard a bit and softening his features.
