Illustrated: an impression from the Reba and Dave Williams Collection in Alone in a Crowd , p. 14, pl. 9, and African-American Artists, 1929-1945 , the Metropolitan Museum of Art, p. 39. A very good, dark impression of this very scarce print. According to Lisa Gail Collins in the latter catalogue, this lithograph was “created soon after Alston returned from a long investigative journey through the Deep South with a Farm Security Administration (FSA) inspector.” Messinger/Collins p. 39.
