This expressive work is the first example of Camille Billops’ tiles to come to auction. This imaginative meeting of Southern cultural figures is a scene that Billops also illustrated for the collaborative modern fairytale, The Stone House, A Blues Legend by James V. Hatch, Billops’ partner, and Suzanne Noguere, published in 2000. Her prints and sculpture have been exhibited at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design, The Chrysler Museum, and The NewMuseum; other works are in the permanent collections of the Studio Museum of Harlem, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Museum of Drawers, Bern, Switzerland.
