New York: Security Printing Company, 26 March 1967 [2,000/3,000] Lincoln Center opened as New York City’s performance arts destination in 1962. Its Philharmonic Hall (later Avery Fisher Hall and now David Geffen Hall) featured, almost from the beginning, many landmark performances by African Americans such as Miles Davis and the Supremes. This double poster advertises a late-career performance by gospel great Mahalia Jackson. The artist Milton Glaser remains a renowned graphic designer, most famous for his I Love New York logo and his Bob Dylan concert posters. 310 c   (MUSIC.) Ebony Attractions presents the Montiques and Sweet Funk Musical Express. San Antonio,TX, 14 April [1974] [500/750] The performance was at the LaVillita Assembly Hall in San Antonio,TX, but the poster was done by the Colorcraft Poster Co. in Oklahoma City. If you didn’t grow up in San Antonio “back in the day,” you may not have heard of these bands, but the Montiques look sharp, and so does this poster. 310 309
