Together, 2 silver prints, the images measuring 3 3 / 4 x3 and 3 1 / 4 x4 inches (8.1x8.9 and 8.3x10.2 cm.) the sheets slightly larger. 1920-24; printed 1960s [3,000/4,500] From the Collection of Jan Šampalík, Sudek’s friend; to the Present Owner. As a young photographer in southern Bohemia in the 1920s, Sudek was interested in photo– graphing the contrast of the flat landscape of his childhood with vertical rows of trees planted as windbreaks. The photographs associated with the cycle Polabaska krajina (Landscape along the Elbe River) are mostly dated from 1920- 24, with some from 1927. Similar images of trees are reproduced in the monograph Josef Sudek Fotografie (1956).
