All related to criminal acts and trial proceedings involving murder, gambling raids, and corruption charges. Silver prints, most ferrotyped, the images measuring from 7 3 / 4 x5 1 / 2 to 10 1 / 2 x8 1 / 2 inches (19.7x14 to 26.7x21.6 cm.), the sheets slightly larger, all with period retouching and hand painting, on recto, and most with typed press captions, handwritten notations, and various press agency hand stamps, on verso. 1920s-50s [1,500/2,500] 298 c   (AMERICAN CRIME) White binder containing a total of 132 mug shots of young offenders, some as young as 14 years old, shot over a 40-year period. A group of sad subjects including 44 who were picked up in New Castle, Pennsylvania, one on suspicion of being a runaway, and a range of petty crimes, including larceny, shoplifting, suspicion, disorderly conduct and burglary; includes 78 criminals purportedly from the East Coast. Silver prints, the single images measuring approximately 2 1 / 2 x3 inches (6.4x7.6 cm.), and the reverse, 44 flush mounted and 78 mounted to index cards, the mounts 3x5 to5x6 inches (7.6x12.7 to 12.7x15.2 cm.), 44 with descriptive handwritten information about the subject including age, crime, physical characteristics, and the date of the arrest; the remaining 78 with typewritten identifying information, on verso. 1933-73 [1,500/2,500] 299 c   (AMERICAN CRIME) Thick white binder containing 400 mug shots of men and women who were picked up in Philadelphia for a range of petty crimes, including burglary, lottery, bookmaking, being a “professional thief,” and more. Equally comprised of male and female subjects, many African American. Silver prints, the single images measuring 3 3 / 4 x2 1 / 4 inches (8.9x5.7 cm.), the sheets approximately 3 1 / 4 x5 inches (8.3x12.7 cm.), with a Police Department, Phila, Penn. hand stamp and typewritten information identifying the subject, their crime, and physical characteristics, on verso. 1949-64 [2,500/3,500] 297
