18 c (BRAZIL) H. Kummler (1863-1949); G. Leuzinger (1843-1923) Folio entitled Ansichten von Rio de Janeiro & Umgebung, with 36 photographs. Includes 14 “vistas of Petropolis and Rio de Janeiro” by Kummler, 21 picturesque views of Rio, villages, landscapes and a native figure by Leuzinger, and one miscellaneous uncredited view. Albumen (25) and printing-out paper (11) prints, the images measuring 4 3 / 4 x6 1 / 2 to 7 1 / 2 x9 1 / 2 inches ( 12.1x16.5 to 19.1x24.1 cm.), 21 with Geroges Leuzinger’s title, number and credit in the negative. The mounts 9 1 / 2 x13 to 12 3 / 4 x16 1 / 2 inches (24.1x33 to 32.4x41.9 cm.), with Kummler’s photographs with a calligraphic title and printed Aarau credit on mounts recto, and Leuzinger’s prints on the original two-toned mounts, with a printed title, credit, mention of international awards, and Kummler’s hand stamp on mount recto. Circa 1870-1890 [7,000/10,000] From the Collection of Hermann Kummler; acquired directly from the family. 19 c (ADVERTISING—HAITI) An illustrated advertising directory of Haiti “comprising the leading business houses and views of the republic,” containing 63 richly printed cyanotypes depicting storefronts, building exteriors and interiors, and working companies . Cyanotypes, the images measuring approximately 6x8 inches (15.2x20.3 cm.), and slightly smaller, each with a beautifully typeset advertising caption on the opposite page displaying the company name, address, description of services, and so on. Oblong small 4to, black cloth- covered boards with a debossed title, lightly worn; the title page with the publisher’s and printer’s credits; housed in a custom clamshell case. 1895 [6,000/9,000] An accomplished photographic record of businesses such as banks, carpetmakers, hotels, and winemakers as well as a photographer; a typographer; various importers/exporters for products such as coffee, dry goods, and lingerie; and an ice factory that produced vermicelli, macaroni, and lemonade. 18
