Ferrotyped silver prints, the images measuring 4 3 / 4 x6 to 10 1 / 2 x8 1 / 2 inches (12.1x15.2 to 26.7x21.6 cm.), most sheets slightly larger, 5 on paper mounts measuring 10 1 / 2 x8 1 / 2 inches (26.7x21.6 cm), and smaller; all with period retouching and hand painting, on recto, and most with typed press captions, handwritten notations, and various press agency hand stamps, on verso or mount verso. 1920s-50s WITH— Group of 10 photographs relating to June Davis’ adoption saga, including the original handwritten letter written by Davis’ mother. The photographs show the transition from early wirephoto equipment and scanners to high tech computers and electronic transmission. Includes opening day of AP wirephoto, transmission of images on site and in newsrooms, photographers in the field processing pictures, and busy news rooms populated with scores of reporters and editors.
