316 c (MEXICO.) Manuscript map of part of Jalisco. Manuscript map, 12 1 / 4 x 16 3 / 4 inches, docketed on verso; minor wear and early repairs at folds. Np, circa early 1700s? [1,500/2,500] A map of the land in Jalisco east of Puerto Vallarta. To the north (at the far right of the map) is Tepuzhuacan, with the Amatlan, Ameca and Arenguillo rivers joining together en route to the Pacific. Between the rivers is Guachinango, and in the mountains to the west (at top) is the scenic village of Mascota. Several churches and settlements are noted, as well as a mine. The caption at the top reads “Tiene esta felig’a de Mascota 60 leguas de sircumbalacion: lo que haze entre los dos primeros Rios, sea administrado por el de Huachinango, todo lo demas por el de Mascota menos Thepozoacan, que pertenece a Huachinango” (the congregation of Mascota has 60 leagues circumambulation: that which is between two rivers is administrated by Guachinango, everything else by Mascota, with the exception of Thepozoacan which belongs to Guachinango”). On verso is an unsigned note to the Viceroy of New Spain regarding payment for the map.
