It is divided into 9 books, with the first 5 on Asia, the next 2 on Africa, and the final 2 (pages 893-1102) on America: New France, Virginia, Florida, Mexico, and South America. In addition to the protections offered in Swann’s conditions of sale, this volume is inscribed with an early bookseller’s 17th-century assurances: “Bought at the signe of ye Angell in Paules Church-Yard and hee warranteth this booke to be perfectle whole as it ought to bee, and if at any times it shall be fownd otherwise hee is to make it good.” European Americana 617/120; Sabin 66681. 274 c   (TRAVEL.) [Mackenzie, Alexander Slidell.] Letter describing his travels in Barcelona and France. 15 pages, 10 x 8 inches, on 4 folding sheets; minor dampstaining, some ink burns, written in a dense hand on thin paper with some bleed-through. Marseilles, 1 November 1831 [500/750] Alexander Slidell Mackenzie (1803-1848) was a well-known naval commander, as well as a literary author. His first book, “ AYear in Spain, by a Young American,” was published in 1829.This letter describes further unpublished adventures in Europe: “I have got into France again, leaving behind me reluctantly the frontier of Spain, a country where for he last six months I have constantly found much to amuse & interest me” (top of page 5).The letter is captioned on the final blank “Journey to Barcelona and thence to France.”
