15 c   (AMERICAN INDIANS—PHOTOGRAPHS.) Rinehart, Frank A. Hattie Tom, Apache. Hand-colored platinum print, 9 1 / 2 x 7 1 / 2 inches, unmounted; minimal wear; captioned, numbered 1400, and signed in the negative. Omaha, NE, 1899 [1,500/2,500] Another Rinehart photograph from the same sitting identifies her as a Chiricahua Apache. An article on the 1898 Omaha Transmississippi Exposition (when this photo was taken) recounts that “Little Hat- tie Tom, a Chiracahua Apache maiden, was the prettiest girl in the village. Boni Tela, a young San Carlos Apache brave, fell desperately in love with her. The affair terminated in disappointment to both, owing to the obstinacy with which they clung to their respective tribes.” See “Art Work in Nebraska: The Rinehart Collection of Indian Photographs,” in The Pebble 1:1 (March 1900), page 23.
