Boston: Norman &White, November 1783 [300/400] The second issue of one of the earliest American magazines.The editors were so embarrassed by the poor quality of the first issue that they begin this one with an apology, and “shall take the liberty of calling the Magazine for November, the first number.” Includes a notice of Washington’s farewell to the army “wrote in a most elegant and affectionate stile.”A 1960 Goodspeed’s catalogue called the frontispiece plate “the first American item on glass-making,” and for all we know, they may be right.
