inches. Signed in ink, lower right.
Provenance: Richard A. Long, Atlanta; thence by descent to his estate.
This small but powerful collage by Romare Bearden is a wonderful example and a revelation. This
scene was not included or developed into his important 1977
Odysseus
series of collages and
watercolors, which begins with
The Fall of Troy
. It adds to our understanding of his conception of
the series. Bearden developed 20 monumental works, as large as 36x48 inches, from such small,
intimate collages as this.
