(MILITARY—INTERMARRIAGE.)
Locket with photo of a black soldier
and his white German girlfriend (wife?)
Gold-plated locket, with photograph of a
black airman on one side and the same airman with his girl on the reverse.
Germany, circa 1950’s
[400/600]
Black servicemen, serving in Europe, both during and after WWII were surprised to find that
many of the women there did not have any problem with color. As a result, there were many inter-
racial couples, many of whom came home after the soldier’s “hitch” was over. Others chose to stay,
rather than come home to hostility in the States. Provenance: purchased from a German dealer.

MILITARY—WORLD WAR II.)
June 15, 1944. Infantry Day in the
92nd Division.
Copious illustrations.16
pages, printed in monochrome sepia.
Np: Published by the “Buffalo”, 1944
[400/600]
Probably published as a sort of souvenir to be
sent home to loved ones, commemorating the
service of the soldiers of the segregated 92nd
Division. The so-called “Buffalo” black
infantry division was the only black division to
see combat in Europe during WWII. The
92nd fought in Italy and sustained over 3000
casualties.
