A RARE IMAGE OF ADDIE HUNTON
, (1866-1943).
Hunton, nurse, suffragist, and civil rights
advocate was one of only 18 black nurses assigned to the army’s colored troops in 1918. The
reverse bears a note “From Sgt Thomas who was on leave at colored Y.M.C.A at Chamberry,
France.” Photographs of Hunton are uncommon.
