The recipient of this little hooked rug was George Brashear, at the time a senior at Tuskegee,
just about to graduate in the class of 1917. Brashear was a track and football star at Tuskegee,
but he was also a fine musician, and went on to play with Louis Armstrong, Fletcher
Henderson and other top bands. Mr. Brashear donated this rug to Thomas Moore’s National
Black American History Museum in 1975 It was later de-accessioned after Mr. Moore’s pass-
ing and acquired by a private collector.
