“
WANTED POSTER
”
INVOLVING A FAMOUS
NEW YORK CITY POLICE SHOOTING OF A
BLACK CHILD
.
This poster was created in the
neighborhood where 10 year old Clifford
Glover was shot in the back by plainclothes cop
Thomas Shea. On April 28, 1973, Glover
and a friend, Add Armstead were walking
along a street in Queens when a car drove up
and one of two white men pointed a gun at
them. The pair ran, and one of the cops fired,
fatally wounding Clifford Glover, ten years old.
An open walkie-talkie to the dispatcher
recorded Shea saying “Die you little bastard”
and a few moments later, a whoop and “the
good guys won!.” As air-tight a case as the
District Attorney’s Office was given, Shea was
tried and acquitted.
