John Leech was the pre-eminent Punch car-
toonist before Sir John Tenniel. He is also
remembered for being the original illustrator of
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (1843).
Includes the sketch for “BLOOMERISM!,”
an early jab at Victorian feminism that
appeared in Punch in 1851.

Editions Club edition of Swann’s Way by Marcel Proust. Over 140 preparatory sketches of
characters, street scenes, interiors, etc., variously in color, charcoal, etc.; many highly fin-
ished. Bound in black leatherette sketchbook. Presented to André Maurois by Lamotte on
the occasion of a Lamotte exhibition at the Bernheim Gallery in April 1950.The book was
published by the press in 1954. More images available online.
