air he sees white coursers pau, and
prance, Bestridden of gay knights in
gay apparel Who at each other tilt
in playful quarrel.” Signed and dated
1901, lower margin, oval metal
frame with beaded border, rubbed,
with some decorative pieces missing.

A lovely, romantic image depicting Keat’s
poetic inspirations of jousting knights appear-
ing in what he called the “sheet lightening” of
clouds, an enchanted portal to the poet’s imagina-
tion, inspired by Edmund Spenser and Leigh Hunt.
