Mayberry killed Alger with a hatchet in Harmony, WI, and was convicted of murder. As the
state had abolished the death penalty, a mob broke into the prison and lynched Mayberry in
the streets of Janesville. The introduction explains that Mayberry was a Mormon; the pamphlet
is not listed in Flake. McDade 674.

Approximately 1,000 small-format wanted posters, most about 8 x 8 inches, sleeved in 14
binders; various sizes and conditions, many with manuscript markings or inked stamps,
some are trimmed and pasted onto printed mug shot cards, but generally in strong
condition.

These wanted posters were collected by a police detective in Westchester County, NY. Some are
stamped by or addressed to the county sheriff’s office. While many are from the New York area,
most were issued from other states or by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Celebrity criminals represented here include Lester Gillis, a.k.a. Baby Face Nelson; Mary
Evelyn Frechette, a.k.a. Mrs. John Dillinger; Arthur “Doc” Barker; mobster Roger Touhy; and
bank robber Frank Nash. Later radicals from the 1970s include Weather Underground
member Cathlyn Platt Wilkerson, Symbionese Liberation Army member Kathleen Soliah; and
Black Liberation Army fugitives Joanne Chesimard / Assata Shakur and her brother Mutulu
Shakur.
