Condition A.
Joseph Aletti was a hotel and hospitality
magnate. Through his family he came to own
a string of prominent hotels in Vichy and on
the French Riviera. In 1930, the year France
was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the
French occupation of Algeria, Aletti opened up
a large, high-end hotel in the country’s capital
city. The elegant hotel and casino soon became
one of the most fashionable spots in the entire
city, and this poster perfectly captures the
feeling of the sought-after destination. Although
the artist is unknown, the printer Baconnier
was one of the best in Algeria. This image also
exists in a smaller variant and as a luggage label.
