O'REILLY, JOHN. Tears. 24 black and white polaroid photo-collages mounted recto and verso on 12 stiff boards bound in an antique (nineteenth century) album with metal clasp (3 1/4 x 2 inches; 85 x 50 mm, photographs). Signed, titled, and dated by the artist. Unique artist's book consisting of collages composed of cut-up photographs. In this work O'Reilly has placed his collages in an earlier photographic context - the family album. Using a found album he has replaced the "family" photos with his own work. He was one of the ten artist's Jonathan Hammer invited to collaborate with him on the books for the 1994 exhibition at Matthew Marks' Gallery (see lots 186 and 199).
