LIN, MAYA. "From Tibet to Suriname, From China to New York."
Unique artist's book/sculpture. Altered copy of a Rand McNally atlas (4to, green cloth, 15 x 11 inches; 380 x 275 mm, 1991; housed in cloth folding box). Pages 3 through 210 are cut in increasing then decreasing sizes creating a beveled topography within the aggregate printed maps, with the furthest depth achieved on the China and East Asia double-page map on pp. 90-91. Signed, titled and dated by the artist on the title page in pencil. In the context of Lin's work this relates to her interest in landscape and topographics while in scale it references her smaller sculptural works as well as much larger outdoor works. The present work was exhibited at Pace Gallery, New York, from which it was acquired by the present owner. Np, 2008
