(SUFFRAGISTS) A group of 11 photographs associated with women demanding the right to vote and an amendment ensuring legal protection in the United States.
With images of a NYC parade in which protestors, who are all dressed in white, are carrying a placard that reads "New York State denies the vote to criminals, lunatics, idiots & women," in addition to pictures of prominent figures addressing large crowds, and studies of fiery American and British champions of the cause, including Emmeline Pankhurst, Carrie Chapman Catt and Dr. Anna Shaw, Miss Hutchinson, Lucy Burns, Mrs. S. Leobinger, Mrs. Leonard Thomas, and Mrs. Stanley McCormick. Silver prints, the images measuring to 6¼x4½ to 7x9 inches (15.9x11.4 to 17.8x22.9 cm), a few with credit or caption information in the negative; many are adhered to later mounts with labels, bar codes, and captions, in pencil, on mount verso.
