Sale 2520 | Lot 386
(AMERICAN CRIME) A group of 570 mug shots depicting the usual suspects -- snarling gangsters, bruised con men, hard-nosed gang members, and mild-looking milquetoasts -- with a disproportionately large number of bad boys and teenagers.
The lot depicts men who were picked up for petty crimes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island; many were arrested in the legendary hot spot of Fall River, Mass. (birthplace and home of Lizzie Borden). Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 3½x5 inches (8.9x12.7 cm.), most with the name of the alleged criminal in the negative; 160 with notations indicating the subject's name, alias (if known), address, and physical characteristics, most mention the nature of their crime; with a few duplicates, and 8 miscellaneous snapshots. Circa 1947-62
