(PHILADELPHIA--FIREFIGHTING) Album entitled Photographs of Fires 1947 - 195, with 128 photographs depicting firefighting efforts throughout the City of Brotherly Love, many of them quite dramatic. Apparently an amateur photographer's ongoing photographic project, the album is an appreciative and thorough documentation of first responders' heroic efforts, with several daring scenes of rescue operations. Other pictures focus on crowds watching tall ladders ascend apartment buildings, as well as dark plumes of smoke billowing from neighborhood homes or silhouetted firemen standing atop wreckage. Silver prints, the images measuring 3¾x5¾ inches (9.5x14.6 cm.), cornered 2 to 5 per side, with numeric hand stamps on print verso, and captions including the date, time, location, structure, and number of alarms required to extinguish the blaze, in ink, on the sheets. Folio, leatherette with a paper title label; most of the leaves are detached; ties. 1947-51
