Presentation album with 26 large-format photographs depicting cable manufacturing, offices, testing rooms, and the rubber mill and store at Pirelli-General Cable Works, Southampton, England.
The album documents various prodution stages with a keen eye towards capturing movement and portraying the employees within their workplace. Many of the photographs depict a predominantly female workforce with numerous bonnet-clad women operating lapping, stranding, and winding machines during production of "air space telephone cables" and other wires. Silver prints, the images measuring 9¼x11½ inches (23.5x29.2 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso to grey pages, each with a printed caption label affixed beneath. Oblong small folio, brown leatherette with a gilt-stamped company logo. Circa 1915

Pirelli-General Cable Works opened their factory doors in 1914. The company was owned in equal shares by Pirelli and General Electric Co. They were responsible for technical advancements and progressive developments, such as the co-axial cable, which remains in heavy use to this day.
