292 •(SUMMER OF '69--WOODSTOCK & TORONTO POP FESTIVAL)
Pair of albums with 245 candid photographs documenting one of the most historic summers in modern music, including 37 images of Jimi Hendrix's iconic closing set at Woodstock.
Also chronicling performances by Canned Heat, The Band, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young), Alice Cooper, The Velvet Underground, Joe Cocker, Procul Harum, and The Yardbirds, among 40 others. Perhaps most important are the scenes of Hendrix's closing performance on the overcast Monday morning of August 18th. The photographer witnessed history in the making as he captured the iconic scenes of Hendrix, with his famed white Stratocaster, stringing together emblematic songs in a medley that lasted over an hour, and included his salient rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner." The moment has forever lived on as a defining event in modern culture, and an everlasting symbol of the fleeting Sixties. Chromogenic (206) and silver (40) prints, the images measuring approximately 3½ inches (8.9cm.) square, mounted recto/verso with corners, the musicians identified in a dymo-labeled index, and again with typed captions at each image set. 4tos, paper and cloth-covered boards; spiral bindings. 1969
