Album entitled China Expedition 1900-1901 with 85 photographs, including those related to the Boxer Rebellion as well as scenes in Shanghai and Peking by a German soldier; plus 3 commercial photographs of Sinai, one of a Sudanese laborer, and 5 of Japan.
An historic snapshot album that includes scenes of the Boxer Rebellion, many lively scenes of military life, with official reviews, convoys, naval vessels, and camp scenes, which are interspersed with tourist views of a supine young women, workers on the streets, religious temples, British hunters with dogs, villagers, schoolchildren, and rickshaws transporting couples. Printing-out paper (85) and albumen prints (9), the images measuring 3x3½ to 8x11¼ inches (7.6x8.9 to 20.3x28.6 cm.), mounted recto/verso, the Chinese images have a handwritten caption, in German, below each photograph.
