Album entitled The Property of The Stewart Iron Works Company, with 83 scarce photographs depicting correctional facilities throughout the United States, including the U.S. Penitentiary, Leavenworth, Kansas, and jails in Texas, Nevada, and California.
Also includes Raymond St. Jail, Brooklyn, New York; Northampton County Jail, Easton, Pennsylvania; Buncombe County Jail, Asheville, North Carolina; Wise County Jail, Wise, Virginia; Jefferson County Jail, and Louisville, Kentucky. With a few exterior scenes of completed facilites and others during construction. The pictures focus on the modernist graphic quality of (empty) cell exteriors; there are related studies of other ironworks, including heating pipes, electrical boxes, bolted doors, mechanical devices, barred windows, and radiators lining the long, empty hallways. Silver prints, the images measuring 4½x6½ to 7½x9½ inches (11.4x16.5 to 19.1x24.1 cm.), the sheets 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), linen backed, each with a caption, in ink, in the lower image area, a few bear the credit of Mangold Photo, So. Bend, Ind. Oblong 4o, gilt-lettered morocco. Circa 1903-09
