Large and elegant album with 72 photographs by Henry Hesse documenting the Graham and Luzerne mines, including the company headquarters, interiors of the mines, cars loaded with coal, and the company towns.
The formal, well-sequenced album includes photographs of the company's main administrative offices (in Greenville), the power station exterior and images of the machinery inside, workshops with employees manning their stations, the mines themselves (including miners at work underground), a series of shots of the loaded cars filled with coal, and the compelling images of the company towns (including business exteriors and interiors, residential streets, a "colored church," a school, and a hospital). Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 7¼x9¼ inches (18.4x23.5 cm.), and the reverse, each linen backed, with Hesse's credit and a caption printed on recto.
