WILHELM HAMMERSCHMIDT (active 1850s-1869) Pair of albums entitled Egypte.
With a total of 88 photographs, comprising 32 and 56 prints respectively, including 5 rare hand-colored scenes. Includes various formal views of pyramids, temples, rivers, and mosques; portraits of locals with mules, camels and horses; and multiple scenes of Cairo. Albumen prints, measuring 9 1/4x12 1/2 (in the first) to 8 1/4x10 3/4 inches (in the second) (23.5x31.7 to 21x27.3 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto only, most with Hammerschmidt's signature and plate number in the negative, and printed captions (in French and German), and a few with notations, in pencil, on mount recto.
