Tschaikovsky,” in French, to dramatic agent Edmund Gerson (“Sir!”), stating that he departs for America from Le Havre making it impossible to accept his offer, thanking him for the offer, and in a postscript, hoping for a meeting in NewYork. 1 page, 8vo; inlaid, horizontal fold, minor chip at upper edge.With the holograph address panel of the original envelope, inlaid. Np, 6 February 1891 [5,000/7,500] “It’s from Le Havre (France) that I’ll embark for America. Consequently I will not benefit this time from your offers. I thank you with all my heart.” The postscript:“I hope to have the pleasure of making your acquaintance personally in NewYork.” In 1891, Tchaikovsky traveled to New York to inaugurate the opening of Carnegie Hall, where he conducted his Coronation March on opening night, May 5, 1891.
