According to Mason, the Carpentier-Dempsey fight, the prelude to which is captured by Bellows in this lithograph, “Was the first million-dollar gate—more than 80,000 spectators— at Boyle’s Thirty Acres in Jersey City on July 2, 1921.” Mason 98.
