NIKOLAY ZHUKOV (1908-1973) 66 c LENINGRAD. 1935. 37 1 / 2 x27 1 / 4 inches, 95 1 / 4 x69 1 / 4 cm. Intourist, USSR. Condition B+: repaired tears, restored losses and creases at edges; bottom margin trimmed to image. The dome and silhouette of St. Isaac’s Cathedral in present-day Saint Petersburg is seen from across the Neva River. Under the Communist Government, the cathedral was turned into the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism. After the end of WWII, the museum was closed and the cathedral again became a place of worship. The impressive structure is recognizable even through the fog, though the spire was likely the artist’s invention, as no architectural record of such a large spire can be found. Intourist pl. 17. [1,500/2,000]
