This poster also appears with the additional text at the bottom: “Par les Messageries Maritimes,” indicating that it was the French shipping company that produced this image to inspire travelers. Here, we see camels drinking at a port of Peking (Beijing); though many decades after the ports to China were opened, it is a scene designed to attract tourism made possible by the French trade lines.
