GIUSEPPE RICCOBALDI DEL BAVA (1887-1976) 24 c LLOYD SABAUDO / THE FAMOUS COUNTS. 1928. 38 3 / 4 x25 3 / 4 inches, 98 1 / 2 x65 1 / 2 cm. Barabino & Graeve, Genova. Condition B+: side margins trimmed off; replaced losses in upper right corner; repaired tears at edges; minor creases and abrasions at edges; minor foxing in margins and image. Framed. Riccobaldi del Bava studied drawing, painting and set design. He supported himself selling illustrations to books andmagazines, and ultimately began designing movie posters. From1927 on, he mostly designed travel posters. “His style, influenced by futurism, and oriented towards late Cubist graphics, reaches . . . a great compositional charm” (Bolaffi p. 186). Here, combining classic imagery from Italy’s history with her contemporary technological marvels, Riccobaldi depicts the country as literally charging into the future. These four ships - the Conte Rosso , the Conte Verde , the Conte Biancamano and the Conte Grande - were all launched between 1922 and 1928. This is the English version. Passenger Ships p. 117 (var).
