The Alsina first sailed for the Société Générale de Transport Maritimes in 1921, and was active through its requisition for wartime service during World War II. Service continued until World War II, when the loss of French Indochina gradually forced the company to end passenger services. Throughout his career as a “ship portraitist,” Sandy Hook designed posters for 28 shipping and shipbuilding companies. The Guichen sailed for Chargeurs Réunis beginning in 1921.
