Now in his 70s, Saeki worked during his early 20s at aTokyo advertising agency, then turned
to design work at the Japanese cult men’s magazine
Heibon Punch
, producing provocative,
erotic illustrations that became very popular in Japan during the 1960s/1970s. He has often
been referred to as the godfather of modern Japanese erotica. Emulating the traditional
Japanese
ukiyo-e
style, Sakei’s prints represent a contemporary, horror-erotica view on the
Japanese
Shunga
and
Yokaiga
artistic traditions.
