Now in his 70s, Saeki worked during his early 20s at aTokyo advertising agency, then turned

to design work at the Japanese cult men’s magazine

Heibon Punch

, producing provocative,

erotic illustrations that became very popular in Japan during the 1960s/1970s. He has often

been referred to as the godfather of modern Japanese erotica. Emulating the traditional

Japanese

ukiyo-e

style, Sakei’s prints represent a contemporary, horror-erotica view on the

Japanese

Shunga

and

Yokaiga

artistic traditions.
