(HAWAII; COSTA RICA; GRAND CANYON; CUBA; NEWYORK)
Accomplished photographer’s Grand Tour album with 94 exquisitely hand-colored photographs by
T. A. Cooper, who had the great fortune of enjoying a 10-month long trip that took him from
Hawaii to theWestern and Southwestern U.S., the Caribbean,Australia, and to NewYork City. The
pictures were taken from May 4, 1934-April 2, 1935. The trip starts aboard the cruise ship S. S.
Empress of Japan, which voyages to Honolulu. Cooper’s photographs of the remarkably verdant
island and scenes of venders selling leis are delicately tinted. Back onboard the Empress the ship
arrives in Los Angeles, where he visits Universal City studios and the Huntington Hotel. Next stop
is the Grand Canyon; the coloration of the rock formations is vivid and realistic. From there Cooper
travels to Havana, Cuba, where he captures the drama of a tropical sky as well as scenes of Panama
and Costa Rica. The last picture is of the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. Silver prints, 3
