Doris Heyden was a prominent scholar of pre-Colombian Mesoamerican cultures with a strong focus on
central Mexico. Heyden was also a member of a group of artists, writers, folklorists, scholars, and political
activists who together created the “Mexican Renaissance,” and included Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José
Clemente Orozco, and Manuel Alvarez Bravo.
