Walkowitz’s (1878-1965) fascination with
American dancer, Isadora Duncan (1877-
1927), is manifest in the many thousands of
drawings he made of her dancing. At the
end of his career, the artist remarked, “She
[Duncan] had no laws. She did not dance
according to the rules. She created. Her
body was music.”
