Artists and Their Prints,” March 23, 2013-May 23, 2013) and the New York Historical
Society (“The Armory Show at 100: Modern Art and Revolution,” October 11, 2013-
February 23, 2014). These exhibitions are the models and foundations upon which we
have built our centennial tribute to the original exhibition, a first for any auction house
and, in essence, an Armory Show for sale as it was 100 years ago.
Many of my colleagues at Swann, and our associates, have indefatigably persevered
over the past year to help bring this catalogue and auction to fruition. Among them
I am particularly grateful to our entire Swann support staff and our ever-professional
photographers, printers and designers at Brilliant Graphics. In the Prints and
Drawings department itself, the organizational efforts of Brittney Ingarra and Diana
Flatto have been unparalleled. The task of writing many of the very informative
introductory texts was tackled both expertly and eloquently by Allison Wucher and
Sylvie Francois. Last but certainly not least, Erin Bennett, the all-in-one Arthur B.
Davies/Walt Kuhn/Walter Pach of Swann Auction Galleries, deserves great credit for
her role in bringing this work together. Over the year, she has shared her passion for
this auction and worked tirelessly with countless consignors, scholars and clients,
percolating an interest for our endeavor and thereby orchestrating the accumulation
of art works in the pages that follow which pay homage to and parallel those offered
100 years ago at the Armory Show itself.
