According to Ginestet/Pouillon,Villon etched this subject directly on a copper plate while
sitting at a cafe on the rue Caulaincourt, in the Montmartre district of Paris. Amedeo
Modigliani, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre-Auguste Renoir andThéophile Steinlen all had
