front pastedown, passing by marriage and descent to the Öttingen-Wallerstein family, with their
stamp on the title. A prominent member of the great Augsburg banking family, Fugger (1529-

formed a vast collection of books in wide-ranging fields. This volume is one of a substantial
group in bindings in a simple style commissioned by Fugger from an unidentified Parisian
workshop in the 1550s. Needham, Twelve Centuries of Bookbindings, pages 204-05.
