In France, the Tolmer Publishing House pro-
duced some of the most elegant advertising
materials between the wars. Alfred Tolmer’s
1930 graphic design masterpiece, Mise en Page,
was a treatise dedicated to all aspects of Art
Deco design. This image is a good example of
the practical quality work the company pro-
duced, combining typography, layout and color
to create captivating posters.

A soft, mannerist Art Deco image of an active
day in the country, in which picnickers are sur-
rounded by the upper class toys that all run
smoothly thanks to Castrol Oil. This poster is
attributed to Claudius Linossier, the great
French Art Deco metal worker.
