“La Nouvelle Eve” opened as a nightclub in 1949 in the same premises that had been a nightclub since
1898. During the Second World War, the building was used as a movie theatre, but the new designers
chose a Belle Epoque theme for their “new” establishment. Colin uses flat colors and a free-handed
style of illustration to depict Eve with an apple in one hand and a snake in the other. An image evok-
ing sin and temptation, which was totally appropriate for a venue that hosted topless reviews.
Typographically the word “Eve” is a continuation of the snake. This image also exists in a smaller for-
mat, and in another variation where it is the central image surrounded by text. Colin p. 126.
