In early 1931, Einstein and his wife visited the U.S., stopping at the Grand Canyon on the
first of March, where a group of Hopis made Einstein an honorary chief (as they did all visiting
dignitaries). Two weeks later, Elsa and Albert returned to Europe aboard the liner
Deutschland
.
