Silly Symphonies was a series of animated short subjects, 75 in total, produced by Walt Disney
Productions from 1929 to 1939, beginning as a sister series to Mickey Mouse. Donald Duck and Pluto
(without Mickey Mouse) made their first appearances in a Silly Symphony short. Disney’s first color
short was a Silly Symphony, and the sophisticated and innovative productions helped the series win
seven Academy Awards for Best Short Subject (Cartoons).
