Jeff Donaldson grew up in Pinebluff,AK, where he attended the University of Arkansas, establishing
the university’s fine arts program. He then moved to Chicago, where he earned an M.F.A. at the
Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology and then a PhD in African and African-
American art history at Northwestern University.A member of the Organization for Black American
Culture, Donaldson helped organize the 1967
Wall of Respect
mural and then was a founding member
of AfriCOBRA.
